research
and insight
In the initial concept phase of Total Recall I reached out to several interesting people I had met and asked if they would like to participate in the making of this magazine. Pepper Kaminoff loaned me a photo album from his time in The Ringling Brothers Circus which informed the entire artistic direction moving forward. It was the quality of photos and how it was laid out without pretense that captured the authenticity of the experience. These pages became the north star for the entire layout.

Approach
Unlike our experiences with social media, Total Recall exists to give context to the images we see. It seeks to provide readers with an opportunity to explore and celebrate transformative personal stories, fostering a deeper understanding of human resilience. The visual design of the magazine was curated to evoke a sense of nostalgia, intimacy and wonder by added techniques that make the design feel hand touched and authentic.
Outcome
In today's digital age of rapid-fire, randomized content consumption, a magazine focused on personal stories and life-changing memories provides a much-needed antidote to the lack of context and personal connection found in social media. By offering curated personal stories that delve into the depths of human experience, Total Recall seeks to serve as a reminder of the power of meaningful storytelling.
